To be completed by June 2008
To make it easy to follow what happened during the battle for Carentan and to orient visitors, markers with period photographs and maps will be placed at various locations that were divisional objectives on D-Day or highlights of the battle. These markers will animate various outdoor locations along the way taken by the 101st Airborne to capture Carentan. This several miles battlefield route is very scenic, winding through swamps, hedgerows, and fields abundant with bird life. This route will also be particularly evocative in that it follows in part the path taken by the various regiments of the division during the attack.
The 101st Airborne Historical Trail will include:
Dead Man’s Corner
Purple Heart Lane
Silver Star Bridge
Hell’s Corner (with the famous locks of La Barquette)
Cabbage Patch
Ingouf Farm (Cole’s bayonet charge)
Bloody Gulch
Hill 30
Carentan Square
