"I visited Dead Man's Corner in early January of 2007 and I must tell you, it was the highlight of my trip to France. Your tributes and displays were excellent. I felt as if I were standing on hallowed ground as I toured the house and the exhibits. You have managed to maintain the integrity of this famous dwelling and do a great justice to the men who fought at Dead Man's Corner. Thank you so much for your passion to preserve history and the house where history was made."
Rusty Stroupe, Shelby, North Carolina, USA
"Today, with high interest I reviewed the website about the Carentan Historical Center. You are to be commended for this endeavor and I wish you much success.
My brother, Lester A. Taylor, Item Company, 502, 101st Airborne fought at Carentan under the command of LTC Robert Cole. He was one of the 21 men from Item Company standing June 11, 1944. With deep regard and appreciation."

Steffi Brion, Deutschland
"My brother-in-law and I had the pleasure of visiting the Dead Man's Corner Museum this October and had a wonderful visit including a half-hour talk with one of you staff. We are in the planning stages for a trip (16-20 persons - 7 Days in Normandy) in the first part of October of 2007 and will definitely be making DMC one of our stops. The groups we lead are typically military history enthusiast/collectors and we are always looking for local experts that can add insight. We have a few experts that we will be using during our trip but are looking for additional contacts that will add to the trip."
Tray Green, UK
I was very impressed with the Design and Construction of the Dead Man's Corner Museum. As a Museum Designer myself I do like to see well executed displays and dioramas of equipment and uniforms. The mannequin figures are particularly interesting.
Your best asset is the shop, well stocked with a variety of goods, the replica items were astonishing the plastic MP40 took me by surprise.
I think more Museums in Normandy should follow your lead and focus on the men and equipment rather than the politics and incorrect history.
You should be pleased with this Museum, I look forward to visiting again in the future.
Steve Davis, Museum Designer, UK
We did enjoy our stay and visit. Out of all the places we visited in Europe those two weeks, I liked Normandy the best. I really enjoyed your museum. It was the only museum in Normandy that I went to this time. Last time I was there in 2003 I visited almost all the other Normandy museums. I must tell you that I consider Dead Man's Corner Museum to be the best displayed and most professionally presented museum of all the ones I have been to. Congratulations on a fantastic collection and display. The small details of your decor really added to the presentation.
John Klein, USA
We came across your museum whilst we were touring the Loire on a motorcycle. I was intrigued with the story in the brochure and thought we would come and see what it was all about on our way back to Cherbourg.
What an amazing experience. I have been to many D-Day museums around Normandy and as any normal 46 year old from the UK, I have a fascination of what life must have been like in 1944. Both me and my wife were very touched by the unusually personal presentation where one could actually relate the item on display to an individual. The strategy to align Band of Brothers and Brothers in Arms to the museum in inspired. This kind of thinking to use contemporary 'entertainment' to encourage the young to get involved will make sure that future generations appreciate the sacrifice of our grandfathers.
To end it all, the store was just amazing and a real Aladdin's Cave!
Congratulations.
Simon Belton, UK
My son and I recently visited your museum as part of an 8 day itinerary in Normandy. DMC Museum is, hands down, the finest museum we saw. It is a gem of airborne history, featuring quality over quantity. And the shop in back with so much WWII materiel is worthwhile in its own right. Well done!
Jim & Cameron Star, USA
For military historians and tourists alike, who have a desire to see an amazing collection of archival information and historical artifacts that truly represent the role played by the 101st Airborne Troops, as well as the German Fallschirmjager and SS Troops deployed in the area in and around Carentan, the Museum at Dead Man's Corner is a must see!
Francis Reinprecht, USA
Pierre Tunis, France
I just returned from a 10 Day Battlefield Tour of WWII sites in Europe. I would recommend the Dead Man’s Corner Museum in Carentan to anyone interested in WWII history. This is simply the finest museum in the Normandy area. The quality of the historical material (virtually all of which is attributed to specific participants in the Normandy Campaign), to excellence of the exhibit design, and the overall interpretation are without peer. It truly is must see!
Col Rob Dalessandro, Director US Army Heritage and Education Center, US Army War College, Carlisle, USA
This is a very unusual museum and well worth a visit. It is based in a house that was used by Major von der Heydte and the German 6th Parachute Regiment during the Normandy fighting. It is superbly presented with excellent dioramas some whose figures have the faces of those who actually fought here. The story of the name is told in the museum and supplemented with showcases full of personal items from the period.
Major and Mrs Holt's, Battlefield Guide Books, UK
"I am a Canadian residing in La Haye Du Puits. I visited your museum recently.
It is without doubt one of the better museums on the Battle of Normandy.
I was very impressed. A great collection and superbly displayed.
I believe it's the only one primarily dedicated to the activities of the 101st and of the 6th parachute regiment. A fitting tribute to these brave men. You also offer the visitor a wide assortment of collectibles and books which is a great combination.
Well done! I highly recommend it as a must see!
It is exactly as you say in your wonderful brochure: "A Rendez-vous With History".
Robert Holmes, France
"Je suis un passionné d'histoire et particulièrement de la seconde guerre mondiale. Je voulais tout d'abord vous féliciter pour tout le travail que vous fournissez. Le musée est vraiment très interressant et bien réalisé.
Cette maison m'a vraiment marqué, moi et ma femme...
Merci pour tout et bonne continuation."
Benjamin Louiset, Rouen
I'll plan to come to your "show" at the airborne museum project and knowing the way you do things, I'm sure it will be a huge success.
Colonel Bob Piper, 82nd Airborne veteran
I had heard about the museum, it sounds really exciting!!! Best of luck to you - can't wait to see it when it is open! Best to you and your new project.
Bill Kapsalis, USA
Congratulations on opening your new museum! That must have been an exciting occasion. I would really like to see it the next time I am in Europe.
Barbara Gavin, USA
Congratulations and good luck to you, on the new museum. I hope you have some history of our troop carrier groups in your museum.
Best wishes always,
Rose Malysiak, 90th Squadron, 438th TCG, USA
I think you strike a fair balance between the commercial aspect of it being a museum, and the importance of remembering the veterans. I hope I will get an invite sometime before June to see how it's developing?
Keep us informed so we know when to add it to the tour itinerary of our Band of Brothers Tour.
Paul Woodadge, France
Thank you so much. This is awesome!!! I passed the web site on to many to enjoy. Sent it to my son. He may have time to view it. Things are very busy in Iraq at this time, as I'm sure you know. Thanks for all you have done to honor our soldiers!!!
Teresa Holgate, USA
Congratulations on opening of Airborne Museum in Normandy. With your knowledge - expertise - dedication - determination - love for the Airborne I knew it would happen. I hope to see it one day.
Polly McIlvoy, USA
I am Jim Zaya, Annie McIlvoy's husband. I was unable to make the trip with the Mcilvoy family this past summer but have kept up with all that is going on. I just received a message from my mother in law, Polly regarding the Airborne Museum. How wonderful to hear such great news. Thank you so much for all your hard work. You have been a God send to the entire family for what you have done. Seeing the non stop efforts of my wife Annie do all she does with the 505th here in Cinn, oh, I can only imagine the tremendous amout of effort you have put forth to get this done. Thank you again so much and God bless you.
Jim
We wish you the best of luck in your endeavors. Let's keep in touch. We're impressed.

Great to see the continued encouragement to have the Americans come over. We have four tours scheduled for 2005 and daily tours all year long.
Carlton Joyce, PhD
Executive Director, Normandy Battlefield Tours, USA
I'm sure your museum will be a much sought after attraction. Here on Long Island we have an aviation museum which offers a ride in a C-47 that is pretty popular. Your simulator should be really something. I, for one, will make sure I get over to visit.
Bob Burns, USA
Ah well, the display at Ste Mere Eglise was excellent, so I asume the Carentan Museum will be no less impressive, a Rendez Vous with Destiny, once again.
In June, when I am in Normandy, I will defenitly come to the museum to check it out myself !
I am pretty sure it's gonna be a hit if the high standards is maintained !
Donakd van den Bogert, The Netherlands
Jean Torchio, France
I would like to congratulate you with your great achievement “Carentan Historical Center” truly a great project. A remembrance to the fallen soldiers and remaining WWII veterans.
Philip Jan van Sandwijk, The Netherlands
I like what is going on with the new museum at Dead Man's Corner! I can't wait to see it in person.
Mark Patterson, USA
The good news of your opening the new museum in Normandy has really travelled with good replies - lots of excitement among Family and Friends of the 505 - All are so proud - so well done - Thanks for your dedication.
Polly McIlvoy, USA
I certainly appreciate all you have done to keep the memory of the Airborne troops and the troop carriers alive. I hope someday to see the museum in person. Congratulations on the opening.
Austin J Buchanan II, 90th TCS, 438th TCG
Congratulations on your new museum! The Greatest Generation Memorial Exhibit was awesome and now with a permanent museum setting, I am sure it will be a site that most will want to see when in the Normandy area. Already our family is thinking of a return trip as our trip to Normandy for the 60th Anniversary was one of the highlights of our lives.
You so respectfully honored my Father, Doc McIlvoy with the publishing of the book, Doc McIlvoy and His Parachuting Medics, and the display of his personal belongings related to the war. Your display was a tribute not only to my Father, but to all medics and to the 505th.
Annie Zaya, USA
EPOUSTOUFLANT !
Alain Batens, Belgique
Congratulations - I wish you all the best of luck with your "Airborne Project" - I am really impressed with the different themes of your Project, and will certainly drop in course of June 2005 - it will also be great to meet some of the Vets again.
Alain S. Batens - "Strictly G.I.", Belgium
THANK YOU very much, it is fantastic! You are wonderful. You dedicate your life to remembering American soldiers that fought and died on your soil so many years ago. Most Americans have forgotten them already. I am PROUD to know you.
John Parks, USA
I hope that troop carrier will be properly portrayed! I am angry at all the interviews of 18/19 year old paratroopers at the time—now in their 80’s are disparaging we Troop Carrier pilots as dropping them at about 250 feet above the ground and at 170-180 miles an hour, thus receiving a tremendous opening shock of their parachute and were still swinging when they hit the ground.. The reason for their believing this is the absolute fact that they all had more than 50 pounds of gear that they had never before jumped with… We had to help every trooper to get in the aircraft they were so weighed down. At Greenham Commons where we the 438th were based they weighed one trooper…. He was over 400 pounds! They also bitched about dropping into flooded fields as if it were our fault—not the Krauts.
Bob Gates, Sq. Cmdr., 88th Tr Carr Sq., 438th group.
Congratulations on the web site, it is excellent, very well designed. I must speak to my wife, who is from Toulouse and see what I can do by way of contribution. One thing that I never see in any of the museums in France is what happened to the towns and areas after the battle were over. For example Ste Mere Eglise, how was the town re developed/ rebuilt after the war. Who cleaned up the area? How much involvement did the US government play is restoring the areas to their pre war state? What role did/does the French government play in preserving these areas as your museum seems to me like a private enterprise? I whole heartily support what you are doing and hopefully this year I will visit Carentan again.
John Mc Neely, Ireland
I am thrilled beyond words to see what you are aspiring to create in Normandy. The veterans that you honor here truly have no better friend. Soon they shall all have made their final jump, and yet, thanks to the efforts of people like yourselves, their legacy will continue to grow. We must never forget It is also fitting that this museum should be located in Normandy, the site of what I believe to be their finest hour. It is comforting to know that despite any differences of opinion between our governments, our peoples still embrace the bond that was forged in blood sixty years ago. My hat is off to everyone who has helped in this massive undertaking, at every level, and I'm sure that they must number in the hundreds. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you are doing and I wish you every success.
Chris Biache, USA
Alain Duez, Belgique
I am a teenager from America praising you for your exceptional work on your books. I just wanted to say that I'm glad that you were on the History Channel special for Brothers in Arms it was nice to see such a distinguished and skilled person being interviewed. I just wish they had shown some of your museum! I can't wait until the day that I am able to visit it; maybe I could even get a job as one of the guides. HA! in my dreams. I just wanted to thank you for everything you've done and everything you continue to do for the preservation of American airborne history and to ensure that we will not forget about those men who were so brave as to be unbelievable. Good luck, keep the books coming! I can't wait until the Carentan book comes out I'll be the first to buy it. Thanks for everything.
Michael O'Sullivan, USA
When Armchair General Magazine visited Normandy's most recent museum at "Dead Man's Corner" near Saint-Côme-du-Mont last June, not all the exhibits were in place and there was still some construction to be done to the building, but this did not distract us from the usual high standard constantly delivered from Michel De trez and his team of Collectors. The result is an amalgamation of some unique D-Day Airborne artifacts displayed in the usual imaginative Detrez' style. All housed in a building full of invasion' atmosphere.
Definitely a "Must see!".
Seimon Pugh-Jones, UK
My visit to the "Dead Man's Corner" museum was an amazing experience, it was like stepping back in time and being able to see what these great young men achieved in such unbelievable conditions. A must see.
