Traditionnellement les Américains ont donné un nom aux plus grandes batailles qu’ils ont livrés. Celles-ci sont, fonction de l’intensité ou l'âpreté des combats, des lieux, ou de la médiatisation, plus ou moins connue universellement. La plus connues du grand public est très certainement Little Bighorn qui s’est déroulée en 1876 entre le 7ème Régiment de cavalerie de Custer et Crazy Horse.

Au sein de la bataille de Normandie, la bataille de Carentan est très certainement la bataille dont l’enjeu pouvait avoir un impact majeur sur le déroulement du Débarquement et ce principalement à cause de la nature du terrain et des voies de communication. Carentan est certainement le lieu en Normandie ou les parachutistes ont livré bon nombre de batailles qui sont restées dans les annales. L’abondance des noms qu’ils ont donné à celles-ci en est pour preuve. Dead Man’s Corner, Hell’s Corner, Purple Heart Lane, Bloody Gulch, Cabage Patch, Hill 30 sont quelques-uns de ses noms. Toutes ces batailles ont été livrées sur le secteur de Carentan. Les Américains ne connaissant les noms des lieux sur lesquels ils menaient leurs combats, les ont baptisés en relation directe avec le lieu et l’âpreté des combats.

Traditionally the Americans have given a name to the great battles they have delivered. These are, according to the intensity and fierceness of the fighting, places, or the media, more or less universally known. The most known to the general public is certainly Little Bighorn which took place in 1876 between the 7th Cavalry Regiment of Custer and Crazy Horse.

In the Battle of Normandy, the Battle of Carentan is definitely the battle where the stakes could have a major impact on the conduct of the landing and mainly because of the nature of the terrain and roads. Carentan is certainly the place in Normandy or the paratroopers have delivered many battles that have remained in the anal. The abundance of names they have given to them is proof. Dead Man's Corner, Hell's Corner, Purple Heart Lane, Bloody Gulch, cabage Patch Hill 30 are just one of its names. All these battles have been delivered on the area of Carentan. The Americans not knowing the names of places in which they conducted their battles, they baptized in direct relation with the place and the fierceness of the fighting.
